Nobody Saves the World Board Game Adaptation

Nobody Saves the World

Board Game Adaptation

Overview: Turn a digital game into a physical game while keeping true to the core gameplay experience of the original game.

Design goals:

  • Create a fully playable board game adaptation of an existing game in 4 days.
    • Reinterpret the mechanics of the digital game into a physical form.
    • Keep the same “feeling” of the original game.

How they were achieved:

  • We identified the key aspects to the experience of the original game, and decided to focus on those.
  • We created a set of mechanics that led to as similar of an experience as possible as playing the original game.
  • We kept in mind that we wouldn’t be able to capture the game perfectly in every way, so we omitted some mechanics that are difficult to emulate physically, such as real time combat.

Takeaways:

  • How to translate gameplay experiences across different mediums.
  • If players are only going to play the game once, each playthrough doesn’t need to be unique. Having randomly generated elements is interesting, but after simplified it the experience of the game improved.
